UB802 mixer question

I would like to confirm if my idea is right?, the UB802 has two bus right but the other bus is for the fx loop right? now i will connect a compressor to my mixer like this:

FX SEND -> COMPRESSOR -> AUX RETURN

now since this is not a reverb, chorus, delay etc. so there is no need to adjust the fx send and aux return fader so i'll just set them to 0 decibels or set them where i can't have any feedback and i'll just leave all the tweaking on my compressor unit. Am i right? hehehe! please help and correct me if i'm wrong

thanks

Well... Yes and no... Your signal path will work as you've listed it. You've got an "FX Send" and "Stereo Aux Return", of which, the left is used for "mono". The little red "FX" knobs control the amount of signal you send out. The FX unit controls what you do to that signal. The little white "Aux Return" knob controls the amount of the now "wet" signal you bring back into the mix. A "0" setting may be too much, may be too little... The way you set any of the controls depends on how you want it to sound. If you want a heavily compressed sound, you lower the mixer channel level knob, you crank the send, compress the signal to a 2x4, crank the output of the FX unit, and crank the return, so that all you get is the compressed signal.

You can also use another channel strip as a return from an effect (be careful of loops). Then there's the discussion on the uses of the "Tape In & Out" and the "Control Room Outs" and the 2 push buttons "Tape to Mix" and "Tape to Control Room". All kinds of nifty things you can do with the little doo-dad...

yes i want the compressed signal to be sent thru my main outs to my 2496 sound card and no more of my dry signal. let's say i tweaked my compressor to have a threshold of 10db then a ratio of 4:1 then auto attack and release now these settings is what i want to process my dry signal then will be sent to my sound card for recording to my DAW, so what you're saying is i need to crank up the send and the return and lower my channel fader to achieve this?.

Yes, otherwise, you get "clean", or "dry", unprocessed signal in. How many "parts" are you recording at one time? 'Cause Aux send is mono, and if you're doing say 2 or 4 mics, they all become one via the Aux send and compressor...

yur welcome... Part 2 of the previous comments would be that, you may want to allow some of the uncompressed audio to come thru the mixer. That's the idea behind a "mixer", and that's to "mix". Some of the important things to remember is, if it sounds good, it must be, and if you like it it is. Also, have fun...
