Okey, I don't understand these things, lotsa little holes to plug stuff into... what do they do, and do I need one (look at my profile) I also use a PA system, so maybe I'd need one for Live sound?

Patchbays can be confusing, and really come in the most useful with lots of gear, they are handy when you need to use the same units for different job. Say you move your compressor from an aux send to a channel insert very frequently or move gear like that, it is easy to have all your gear plugged into this patch bay, and any time you want to change the routing of something your can do it from there rather than ahving to crawl under your desk, behind your rack or anything like that, which I am sure we have all done far to often...

Does that help explain a little bit?

As a sidebar, if you plan to add more gear, and like dB said use it in differant way's. A patchbay or 2 or 3 are definatly a must have. I would be lost without mine, all of them.

Also, keep in mind in Noize's studio you can get lost in the cords, racks and synths too :-)

Just like I said, they reroute the signal, when all your gear is hooked up to it the patch bay just acts as the ins and outs for all your gear in a more convenient location.

I see, well that's nifty. I know you guys are big on behringer mixers, but how about their patch bays? They're pretty cheap, I think around 30 something bucks on musicians freind

ya, collapse, I remember that discussion :-)

Well, Loki, I think Noize has 3 Behringer patch bays in his racks, and he loves 'em...personally, I don't have a patchbay as most of my processing is done in the PC...but when I did have a lot of outboard gear back in the day, I had one.

Yeah. I'm more of an outboard gear type guy... I like being able to physically touch knobs and wires and sliders and things. Hey, this is off topic but does anyone know anything about PA system amps? I took mine out of the case a few months ago to rack mount it, but it didn't fit, so I left it out of the case, and It wasn't working a few days ago, so I turned the amp off and layed the mic on top of it (normal procedure) and it started hissing and sparking like crazy, which I think can't be good...

And 2 in the closet. They give you anice manual that cover's all the in's and out's. And it show's several differant hook up scene's. so it is perfect for the first time user.

Hey Noize, if I buy that 17" monitor from ya that we spoke about over email, how about tossing in one of your extra patch bays too as long as you have them falling out of your closet :-)

I gotta get my dual monitor setup running, that would soooooooo rock! Now that I have the video card to do it...oh, ya guys, my birthday present to myself was an ATI Radeon 7500 video card...WooHoo

That is why I became a gear hore! My kid's have alway's shopped at the music or computer store for my B-Day's and Father's Day.

And yes, I will throw in a patch bay. I need to go pick up some cable and end's to redo some of my rack's. so if you are in need, let me know and I will order extra.
