Hey Guys

Im thinking about ditching my old Valvestate Combo or at least getting new supplies amp wise too and going for the above unit.

Here's somethng lifted straight fi Ebay:

THIS MARSHALL SERIES 9000 MODEL 9004 TWO CHANNEL SOLID STATE GUITAR PREAMP IS IN PERFECT WORKING ORDER AND COMES WITH A POWER SUPPLY. IT IS IN GOOD CONDITION COSMETICALLY WITH A LITTLE RACK RASH.

FEATURE INCLUDE:

AN EFFECTS LOOP (STEREO OR MONO), STEREO OUTPUTS, AND A HEADPHONE JACK.

WORKS GREAT, LOOKS GREAT AND SOUNDS AWESOME. IT HAS AN EXCELLENT SOUND DISTORTION CHANNEL, JUST LIKE A MARSHALL JCM 800 WITH A LITTLE EXTRA GAIN, THEN A REAL NICE WARM CLEAN CHANNEL

Looks cool. Presumably, combining the above with a 4x12 cab would be sufficient for a top amp sound???

I know there are many NON Marshall fans oot there but in general, do you think this puppy wold sound better than say, an old Marshall Valvesate 8080 - a nice amp for sure but alas, this rack thing looks VERY Cool...

Cheers

Coco.

Going the preamp/power amp/cabinet route is definitely a flexible setup. You can find the device at each stage that best suits your tastes. I've never done it myself, but lots of people do. I haven't heard anything about Marshall preamps in particular tho.

I just can't recommend any LP owner anything other than a valve amp :) As much as I loved my LP when I had a solid state Fender combo, I fell in love with it all over again when I paired it with a tube combo.

Not to try to steer you away from what you want, but I'm a valve head now and I'll never go back :-)

But, you're a gigging musician and tube amps are definitely a step up in maintenence, especially for people that lug them around constantly. But the tone man, the tone! Its unparalleled!

If I were shopping for an amp now, I'd look into the low-wattage tube amps from Fender, Traynor, used Ampegs, or maybe even Orange or the vintage-like Mesas if I had just won the lottery. I say low-wattage because you really have to crank a tube amp to get that buttery smooth power tube breakup. With a lower-powered amp you can really drive it into distortion without damaging your ears or the superstructure of your house. And you can always mic it on stage.

Anyways, I don't think that I'm helping your cause here...I have a habit of pushing the things that I like on to other people :)

Its a good point bud - I am looking into Valve Heads too...oh yes, but the above costs just £40 (about $75 USD) so worth a wee peek even just for the rack (which I must admit, has seen about 2 hours use since Xmas even tho its loaded up with my Behri Compressor and Virtualizer!!!).

But, this would be pretty cool for an addition.

I do like tubes tho....another thought in the melting pot

Cheers Tad

Yah, that was my thoughts :-) ! Its on ebay of course but I dont think it'll go too high... :-p...more sleepin on the couch tho! hehehe after last weeks purchase..

The valvestate 8080 (made around 1993) sounds good when cranked as it does have 1 valve in, but alas, its not a true valve amp!

The thing is, I could use this (with my rack) and a 4x12 at gigs and get a kickass sound.

Hell, it even has EQ on both channels!!! Not bad.

Here's the reviews from Harmony Central...

Problem with this is, ye never know but there are more HAPPY dudes than unhappy (probs expecting a bloody JCM900 for nowt) type folks!

Cheers bud
