A friend is asking me for a recommendation... thought you guys might be able to help me out. Here's what she says:
I'm looking for some high quality, low cost, compact, external laptop speakers to be used when playing the CDRom videos in the Training Competencies Workshop class.
I want to spend a total of $50 - 75 for 2 sets. Please advise.

Jul 18, 2005 02:07 pm First, I'd see if there are speakers built in to the conference rooms these workshops are held in, and tap into those if possible. Failing that, I think most any simple 2.1 setup at any computer big-box store (CompUSA, Best Buy, etc) would do the job.

I needent comment on that, right?
Jul 18, 2005 02:17 pm lol... right, no comment needed on that. I got a chuckle out of it myself.
Good point on the speakers built into the conference rooms, but my bet is that there aren't any.
I found the Creative SBS240 speakers on NewEgg and passed that on. Another colleague was suggesting stuff more along these lines:
us.creative.com/products/...&product=80
Any thoughts on whether those "portable" speakers are worth the money? They're certainly compact...
Jul 18, 2005 02:23 pm If you need decent sound around a largish room, those little portable thing might not cut it...I also never recommend anything from Creative personally...except for their EMU line...but that's just me having a bias against all thing related to SoundDisaster
Edirol www.edirol.com/ makes decent speakers for this type of use at a decent price. Not sure if there are any THAT cheap but it'd be worth a look.
For decent sound spread over an area or a largish room, you'll need to lug something around...ain't gonna come in a tiny package...but certainly doesn't have to be HUGE.
