I just bought an audix fusion 6pc. mic pack. Me being the smart person I am didn't think factor in the cost of stands that I would need for six mics. At the moment I have my snare drum and tom mics duct taped to the actually drum, and two of my over heads taped to the stands of my other two(It's very depressing to look at...). My question is how important is it to get good stands? I looked on musicians friend and they have some cheap boom stands for $12, but I still need clamps for toms/snaredrum. If anyone has some thoughts or suggestions for stands, please post. Thanks

GET THE BOOM STANDS. I have the same very set, the boom stands holding the overheads about 2-3 feet above the cymbals make a WORLD of difference. Get the Audix clamps for the rest. I bought some cheap clamps and they are crap because they want to fall all the time and have to be tighten every 20 minutes or so. Twelve dollars is not bad at all, go for it.

Yeah I just bought one of MF's straight stands and I'm very impressed with the quality for how cheap it was. Sturdy black metal with an easy twist-down lock. Helluva lot better than the POS I bought from a local music store for more money.

MF has a set of 6 boom stands for $99 right now. they look good. That is the route I am going after I get better financially sound. (too many hobbies, too little money.)

Hi Josh,

I bought a bunch of boom mic stands from my local music shop for $21 each (CDN). They are made by Apex. These stands are fine for me as I am not gigging with them. They only stay in my studio at home. If you are gigging then you should take a close look at the clamps to make sure that they are up to the task. The clamp is definately the weak spot especially during repeated use.

look into mic-ease drum clips. ac-cetera.com/ i have had a set of these for several years now and they still work fine. use em for toms and snare then you just need a short boom for the kick and a pair of stands for overheads. i think they where about $15 a piece.

Thanks for the replies! That 6 stand kit is looking really good right now, considering that I know those stands are good (I already have two), and that it would be about the same if I were to buy clamps. My set is fairly simple so I shouldnt have any problems moving the mic stands into position.
