i was told that my audio drive should be using its own IRQ address on my pc to avoid any conflicts with data flow and make sure theres no pops and drop outs in my recording. Well there are pops and dropouts and as best i can check my integrated firewire port, monitor, and a few other things are on the same IRQ number. i have a dell inspiron 8200 does anyone know how i can fix this and what i can do to optimize my machine for recording at least 8 tracks at once.

Apr 25, 2005 10:36 am Have you changed any of your IRQ settings? Your sound should be using IRQ 5. I'm thinking it might not be an IRQ setting. Tell us what it's set on right now.
Apr 25, 2005 01:53 pm From what i can tell my firewire port is using IRQ 11, thats the one i record through, i checked the rest and and a couple other ones use 11 as well. I have no idea how to change any of them and have never even messed with it.
-Display adapters uses irq 11
-integrated ethernet uses irq 11
-both cardbuses use irq 11, (not good i have external hard drive through carbus usb2 adapter)
-my regular audio goes through irq 5, but i dont even use that when recording its terrible
-both usb port go through 11
i guess i need to put my firewire on irq 5 if this is possible, again i really dont have clue what all this is, i just read an article. i just want to be able to recrd w/o pops and dropouts, im pretty sure my machine is capable from what ive read
thx
Apr 25, 2005 01:55 pm jebus...IRQ11 is kinda busy there...audio should be up on a higher IRQ, I usually shoot for 9 or 10...
Apr 25, 2005 02:16 pm how do you change them
Apr 25, 2005 05:10 pm depends on the system, sometimes you can do it in BIOS, sometimes in Windows itslef...sometimes your just S.O.L.
