the ESI 1010 (ESP or EGO company) is 10x10 PCI rack mount audio interface (similar to the Layla3G but with less dynamic range) and comes with this nice feature called directwire to allow any manner of connection (see below).

Does Layla or Delta or one of the others have this flexibility?
thanks

Apr 16, 2005 09:44 pm No they dont. It was created and patented by ESI. And it is tough nut to crack, they have worked at getting it right for several years. I have the latest version with my 1010 and its working flawlessly.
Apr 18, 2005 12:41 pm most interfaces have some kinda software mixer or another don't they???
i can tell ya my q-10 has a graphical interface, that looks like a real mixer with VU's and all. and i can route the signals anywhere on the back pannel, the interface is literally a picture of the panel itself, with menu style choices as to where the signal comes/goes i can route a seperate mix to teh headphones than what comes out the monitors.
sorry i didnt' wanna turn this into some kinda "i love my q-10" thread, but i just assumed all audio interfaces had some form of routing software.

Apr 18, 2005 01:51 pm Im guessing your right. THe ESP maybe is a bit more "non-blocking" then others is my guess.
What Im having trouble getting over is the dyanmic range of 107db for the ESP vs say a more typical 114db for the Echo Layla3G.
I did get some ESI forum feedback that the ESP doesnt use very good A/Ds. The other ESI product Julia has 114db dynamic range and apparently uses a better A/D device. 7 db is significant I think and represent over 1 of the bits in the A/D not working (6db/bit) which I guess isnt terrible if you think of it like that. But there is a theoretical limit of 144 db using 24bit.

Apr 18, 2005 11:30 pm Just for the record. DirectWire is a completely differant tool and form of routing as opposed to the mixer view common with most audio interfaces. It allows the user to route to and from far more configurations then is possible at all with a normal hardware interface. And it does it all without leaving the digital domain.
