HI OUT THERE
I HAVE A QUESTION..'
MAYBE SOMEBODY NOTICED THAT AS WELL...,..
EVERY TIME I PLAY A WAVE FORM IN THE
EDITOR OF SOUNDFORGE 7.0
ON MY LAPTOP(IBM 1,5 GHZ ATI RADEON)
THE WAVEFORMS LOOK LIKE THEY´RE SHAKKIN.. AND IN A WAY DISTORTED..
IT´S QUITE ANNOYING FOR THE EYES IF
YOU WORK ON A SOUNDFILE OVER MANY HOURS...
IS THIS BECAUSE OF THE 60 HZ LCD -SCREEN..
OR A GRAPHIC-CARD PROBLEM???
ANY HELP APRECIATED,
GREETZ LARS

PLEASE TURN OFF YOUR FEKIN CAPLOCK KEY.

I would presume this is a refresh rate issue in your laptop, set the refresh rate differently, higher, lower, whatever, until the shaking stops.

I presume that would depend on the laptop and screen attached to it. Perhaps go to Windows Updatte, ATI or the maker of your lap top's web site and check for driver updates, ATI is pretty good for frequent updates...perhaps one will fix the issue you have.

it´s a ibm thinkpad r 51
1,5 ghz 512 ram with ati radeon 7500...
windows xp pro
normally it should´nt be a problem
with the graphics with a processor like this..
on my desktop(win 98 athlon 1,3 ghz)
in my studio with soundforge 6.0
everything works fine..
i already updated the drivers from ati
but it ´s still there...
maybe soundforge can´t handle the 3-d
functions of the graphic card..

And like most ThinkPad notebooks, the R51 is not a music machine

IBM Thinkpad screens suck based on my previous experience with them, it may well be in the display itself...I had a Radeon 7500 for a while, it's a decent video chip, but I had the PCI version. Make sure you are sharing a good bit of RAM for that chip to use.

ahh..
maybe i should give the graphic card irq
more priority..
but i have the feeling it may depending more
on the frequency range of the screen..

Is it the same with another wav editor? try the simple things first, could be a bug with the install of the program.
Does it only distort while it's playing? what's the laptop resting on?

hi murphy,..
i tried that with wavelab 4.0, the same..
when i play a long file in the
editor screen and the cursor jumps at the end of the window to show the
next"block " of wave form
it starts shakkin and flimmer...
the laptop sits calmly on my desk in
the studio..no rumbles or hums...

do you have any sort of tool to measure RAM usage or CPU usage? The phrase "long file" got me thinking maybe it's a resource issue...

i think windows has this kind
of cpu or task manager to show the
cpu usage...
but i set the ram on minimum 1024...
in the vietual ram device...
and in cubase i don´t have a problem
using large audio files and playin some
vst´s....
what wonders me is..
that on my old desktop under w 98
everything works fine....

The thing is, even a 6yr old PC should be able to do such a simple task, makes me think graphics card.
Have a fiddle with some of the cards settings, performance/quality etc...

right murphy..
thats what i think as well..
if you buy a 1,5 ghz laptop..
it should be able to play and show a stereo
waveform without any hazzle...
i still think it´has something to do with the hz-
setting in the device manager..
there it says that i can only choose a standard -monitor
with 60hz highest..

have you looked in to updating the driver yet? If not, that should always be the first thing you do...

yo..
i did an update for the graphic-card at first..
did´nt helped..
maybe soundforge is incompatible with some
sorts of 3-d graphic-cards,
or the lcd-setting on
the laptop allows just a weak hz amount
that soundforge starts to show this shakkin..
????
somethmes i wish i would make still music
on my old atari 1040st.....

try disabling acceleration in the display properties.

Oh, and I have yet to find much that is incompatible with ATI...thats why I love 'em. They are not THE BEST at anything, but they are compatible with everything...

no, I have, but I don't like laptops for this sort of work. I have used ATI in laptops before tho and have 3 ATI's from a Rage Pro to a Radeon 7500 at home in different desktops.
