Is the Presonus FIREPOD compatible with Cool Edit Pro 2

Hi All,

I was wondering if anyone is using the Firepod with Cool Edit 2. I've read the reviews on the FP and it has been mentioned that Presonus may have included Cubase LE to iron out any compatibility issues. I would really like to purhcase the FP but I would probably rethink my decision if I can't use Cool Edit. I have only ever used Cool Edit and it took me a while to learn it and I don't think that I would want to go thru a new learning curve with Cubase.

Newbie here, please be gentle :)

I have not used FP, and have not seen CoolEdit for a looooooooooong time. However, I might suggest, given that CoolEdit is a very old application, perhaps upgrading to Adobe Audition, which is what CEP became after Adobe purchased it. Adobe is not really well know for making very intuitive apps, but, it may be a gentler learning curve...

Actually I downloaded the eval for Adobe Audition and I couldn't see any difference (at least not on the surface). It looked to me that all Adobe did was rebrand it but I could be wrong.

... I just checked the Adobe site and it looks like they have added some functionality since I last downloaded. Gonna download the latest again and see what they now have to offer.

Hey BeerHunter...are you Canadian? You must be familiar with Bob & Doug, no? I have played BeerHunter a couple of times...funny game.

I use a FirePod in my setup, it's great. I wouldn't be too worried about the learning curve for Cubase...if you are familiar with any recording app you will be fine, it's also a hell of an upgrade from CEP, WAY more powerful. The only thing to consider would be your computer, the FirePod needs at least a PIII 1Ghz.

If you have any more questions about the FirePod or Cubase lemmy know. Cheerz

Hi af_analog,

Ya, I'm Canadian (Vancouver, BC). haha, Strange Brew and the likes.... way to funny.

I really don't have any computer concerns as both my laptop and pc are P4's (512 RAM).

I'm fairly new to home recording and I'm hoping that the FirePod will make a nice core component allowing me to build around it.

In the past all that I have been doing is running my mixer's "tape out" to the line in on my sound card and I certainly don't need to tell anyone here how much that sucks.

Anyways, our band is just a bunch of 40 year olds messing around having fun. Even though we suck as a band, I still want to be able to "sound" good and learn new things.

Thanks!

Strange Brew is one of my favourite movies...

Well, I have been recording for quite a while and the FirePod is one of the nicest interfaces I have used yet. As I said before, I really don't think you'll have a problem making the transition from CEP to Cubase LE. Cubase uses realtime processing and is fully automated so it has a huge advantage over CEP right there. The only drawback to Cubase LE is that it is limited to 48 tracks of audio, but I don't think any of us here are trying to re-record MJ's "Thriller" so 48 is most likely enough for you.

Good luck, and if you have any more questions once you get the FirePod post them here and I'll help you when I can. CHEERZ!
