I'm pretty new to recording i have a 3 piece band and would really just like some tips on the basics for example: compact flach memory? and how to turn that into a cd, how to record electric guitar: should I mic the amp or use one of the line outs it has and should that go straight to the track or through a direct box first and blah blah woof woof. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey lionheart, I think y'a slipped by us perhaps . I don't know much on the flash memory tip . As far as recording guitar, have you tried going out of your V212 amp, into your recorder ? There's an article about mic'ing your amp in the tips section, if you want to go that route... good readin' for sure . Welcome to HRC !

Ditto on the welcome to HRC

What kind of recorder are you using? I don't know much about flash cards either but if I know the specific recorder I may be able to help you based on things like 'what types of ins/outs it uses' etc.

Also, do you have a CD burner on your computer?

Hey thanks for the welcome, I don't have any recording hardware yet I'm just trying to get an idea on what to look into. but the flash cards I've seen on the Fostex MR-8 recorder. I do have a cd burner on my pc and I assumed that is what you'd have to put it onto to turn into a cd. and yeah I have thought about going straight out of the amp I was just thinking about what type of sound I'm looking for I will take a look at that micing tips though

thanks

Hi, I've got an MR8, the flask cards [Compact Flash] are the means of storage on the Fostex itself - the bigger the card the more storage. On the MR8 you can convert your tracks into a stereo wav and save them to your PC via USB.
MR8 can only record on 2 tracks at a time - not a problem if you are building up your songs but if you are wanting a 'live' multitrack recording you need to be careful. Hope this makes sense.

ok cool thanks for the info, a 2 track wouldn't work for us but it's nice to know what I can do with the flash cards.

thanks
