i know that the general feeling around this board is that soundblaster is crappity crap, but i checked out the price for it and its like 400 bucks canadian compared to like twice that for other stuff that is probably better and has more inputs. so here's my question(s): is the quality REALLY that bad? i mean come on seriously im sure its batter than the card i have so whatever? and how many inputs does it have? i cant find that info anywhere at all.
and yeah the other thing is that i need this to be external cuz i have a laptop, so keep that in mind.

May 07, 2002 04:04 pm it's not so much the quality of the sound that is bad, the main issue is that it will choke quickly if you have many tracks playing back at once if you are trying to record to a another track or two. SB's are not that good at full-duplex use, that is their main drawback.
I think it is only 2 tracks, one left and one right, but I am not sure, and there are higher-end cards available for the same money as the top-or-the-line SoundDisaster cards that have 2 ins and outs as well, for laptops (presumably USB) I can't think of any off the top of my head, but I will post them when I find them...
Also, I few reviews I have read say that the Audigy is actually worse than the Live! in actual sound quality...just an FYI...
Here are some options from Edirol, Edirol makes some great audio gear:

May 07, 2002 06:28 pm I use an Audigy (sadly) only becuase I ma new to this and when i saw the box it looked like a good deal. I got the platinum package and I have a lot of trouble with me recording tracks and playing them back and cubasis (little bro to cubase which is included in platinum pack) crashing, or losing it's connection to the audio card. This card is really good for gaming purposes, not so much for recording.
