Im looking to purchase a firewire/usb 2.0 PC interface and i need to know what exactly is going to be involved with getting a GOOD quality PC studio goin. I have Cakewalk Sonar and sound forge. Should i buy preamps and the interface separate for the best quality or will integrated preamps in the interface be suffiencient for a good studio. i need 8 channels. from what i can gather all need is the software i have, the interface to get the mics into my pc, and good preams to amp the signal. am i missing something besides processors (compressors, reverb, etc.)???? What would should i get if money is not an issue. are the software processors suffient?

MOTU 896 is real good and stable and compatable with just everything

Presonotus (sp?) firepod is nice too

M-Audio's Octaine looks nice

Mackie Onyx seris is awsome

Tascam FW-1884 is pretty sweet

Roland and Cakewalk are teamed up so i'm kinda curious to see what's gonna come outta that (maybe a 2480 fully intergrated with Sonar!)

I'm back bitches!!!

I have the Tascam FW-1884. It is great. A tad expensive to upgrade the number of faders but I prolly won't ever do that ($999 per 8 faders). It also doubles as a control surface too.
