Kinda hard to compare, the Athlon's clock speed is only 2gHz, but it does 64 bit processing. The P4's clock speed in 2.8gHz (I think) whereas the Athlon 64, if I understand correctly, has no real FSB, it's a new architecture.

Personally, I started using AMD about 6-8 years ago, switched to Intel a few years back based on advice from "experts", two years ago I switched back to AMD, saved boats loads of money and it still does a butt-kickin' job. I have no plans of switching back to Intel any time soon.

I have yet to choke my P4 with anything I do. (30 or so tracks + lots pf plugins)

i also do a lot of video editing and it powers though that as well.

The same can be said for my Athlon XP. That's just my point, they both do the job, and AMD costs substantially less than Intel.

Ya, I have an older PIII that has taken a lot of abuse as a DAW. But that said, I am more then happy with my AMD Athalon XP as well. As dB stated, it sure cost a lot less, and to me it seems to run just as fast and stable.

Just FYI, I wasn't implying that AMD was worse or not, just stating a fact I know first-hand.

Im not sure but I think the whole 64 bit thing catters to graphical applicatinons like dB said Ghz signifantly differ taking that into account the P4 favors the hard CPU labour that multitracking and other music production tasks.and the AmD 64 catters to video/graphical design from my knowledge anyways
