M-Audio FW18/14 playback issues

Hi All,

Is anyone else using this card??????

I am unable to hear what i am playing when recording at 24 bit 96khz. It works fine at 24bit 44.1 and 24bit 48. As soon as i set sonar to the higher rate it greys out the m-audio software mixer and i am unable to hear playback unless i click input echo within sonar. M-audio have told me that this feature should be available at this rate but all i am doing is changing rate and it breaks...

I do have a work around but it is very annoying. If anyone has got this card and knows the solution please tell me.......

Thanks

Hey new person, welcome to HRC.

Interesting, while I don't have a solution for you, I guess I would report this to both M-Audio and Cakewalk. From what I read it is perfectly capable of handling that spec.

If you have other software, try enabling higher sample rates in those software apps and see if you get the same reaction from them, at least that way you could narrow down if it's the driver or the software.

Hi dB Masters. I am using sonar 3.1.1 cakewalk support said it was not there issue and m-audio believe it is a sonar issue as they say there card should be able to handle those specs...
Unfortunately i have only got sonar to test with... Have you any ideas of what free software i could use to test it with?

thanks

Well, typical, software guys blame the hardware, hardware guys blame the software...not unusual.

I am not sure, but perhaps Audacity audacity.sourceforge.net would have sample rate choices, maybe Kristal Audio Engine would www.kreatives.org/kristal/ goldwave and the demo version of ntrack might be worth a try...not sure which ones will allow high sample rate choices, but they are worth looking into to help further target exactly where the problem lies.

tgrover, welcome to HRC.

I have several versions of Sonar just for testing stuff like this. And I went back to Sonar 1 as well as 2.2 and it worked fine with my old M-Audio Delta 44. Also on the newer PC with an ESI Waveterminal 192 it worked without a hitch as well in both Sonar 3.1.1 and Sonar 4.0.1.

I am thinking it might be a driver issue. Do you have the latest version of the drivers for the FW 1814, they are at version 1.0.2.8 released in July of 2004. Here is the page for them, www.m-audio.com/index.php?do=support.drivers

I would check that for sure and maybe do a complete unistall and re-install the newer drivers. I know from past experaince I have had driver issues with M-Audio on occasion and re-installing them helped clear things up.

hey buddy..
yea,i have the same problem..
when i set the sample rate ( from Reason addapted), to 96, the playback mixers all fade grey and wont work..
so its not the software,
i guess the issue is from M-audio..
whats the solution??? who knows..

and by the way,my drivers are the latest..
this hardware is really annoying me
