I just invested in the new PODxt, and it is awesome! With the FREE software upgrade that you download off the line 6 website, the tones are warm and almost endless in choices. My vote is the PODxt. I love mine! Plus, the patches that you can download are awesome as well.

The V-amps are decent pieces of gear, but can't really compare to the POD's. POD's are top of the line...bar none. That said, I won't say the Vamps are bad, because they are not, they have some good sounds and good features, just not as many or as good oas the POD.

As per usual, you get what you pay for.

I as well have a fully loaded POD xt and wouldn't trade it for a full stack, well maybe a triple recto. But that said, I know coco uses the V-amp and he seems to get pretty good sound out of it as well.

As dB said the POD is the top end of the deal, and honestly if you have the money to spend, I would fully recomend the POD. It was built to be very upgradeable, and is as I have seen for myself. I am not sure about the V-amp, wether it will take upgrades or not. But if money is a concern the V-amp is a well built and good sounding piece of kit with out a doubt.

As a note, I was a die hard analog guy. But after owning both a first generation POD and the new POD xt and using them pretty exclusively for the last 6 years. I sold my last guitar amp 2 years ago and have not looked back since.

Another vote for PODxt from me. My guitar amp and multieffects are collecting dust.

i can't really compare cause i've not heard the v-amp, but just like the ipod there is something iconic about that little red kidney that made me need to have it.

I keep hearing that the POD has free downloads when being compared to the V-amp. I dont know much about the POD, but the V-amp has a dedicated website where users can share their own programs for the V-amp. These programs, coincidentally, can be downloaded... free of charge. There is also a software editor program you can download just in case you cant find the sound you are looking for. this too is... you guessed it... free. just my .02 cents, but I think the V-amp is under-rated.

(I am not saying it is better than the POD. As I have said, I lack experience with that unit)

Here is a link to the V-amp site I am talking about.

Behringer definately has a good thing with the V-amp, specializing in what they do best...making things inexpensive for the hobbyist. With that comes sacrifices. Sometimes the sacrifices don't matter to different consumers. I like my Bass Vamp Pro, and I like what I have heard from the Vamp 2, they are decent units, I'd never say they aren't, but in terms of sound quality, POD has the edge.

But the deal with Behringer is a cost/benefit ratio. Their products are often half of their competition, but far more than half the quality, so it's a bargain for the money, but still not the real deal. That said, I have a Behringer mixer and a Bass Vamp Pro and I am happy with both for my needs. I'd rather have a Bass PODxt cuz it sounds better, but it's not worth the price for me...yet...

That's great! I'm really not even a guitar player, but I think of having one of those to be able to have somebody recording guitar in my studio. The POD's were a little over what I'd be looking for spending, although I know of how great they are.
But free downloadable upgrades, which I didn't know of, are a real plus, so that might make me think about that.
Thanks for all the infos guys!

As Noize says, I use the VAMP2 and most of my recordings have come via this source guitar wise.

However, whilst I do love it (A LOT) I would consider trying the POD. I have been told its better but price/value ratio wise for me, at this time, its not needed. I will try it tho to see the difference.

Ive also made use of various free VST plugs and I also use Amplitube (not free) but combining em all, my lovely (and I DO love it) Marshall is gatherin dust.

I also go with Noize tho - give me a couple of grands worth of 4x12 Stack ANYDAY...but, these wee units, with some tweaking, Vst and editors (I use the VAMP editor btw - top piece of software for free) do a grand job. They also keep me from blowin ma lugs and I also dont alienatte the neighbours.

Good luck to ye.

Coco.

P.S. Check oot the VST alternatives too for recording..simulanlog.com is a good place to check out for free JCM900 and other classics.

Well, I tried a PODxt (fully upgraded) and a V-AMP Pro, and I went with the V-amp. The POD just sounded "off" to me. Even after a couple of hours tweaking it I couldn't find a sound that made me happy. Something about the high end just sounded way to digital and "wrong." The V-amp may not have as many options, but the overall sound is better to my ears and and I have been able to get EVERY sound that I want. I am recording my new demo with it and as soon as I get a rough mix I will post it so people can see what the V-amp can do!!!

Later,
Kerry

Aye...I cannot slate the Pod or even dislike it til I hear it (Hell, a year and a half ago I considered anyone who didnt use a cranked amp a "fake" - I havent MIC'd my amp since I bought the VAMP and never really used it since save for rehearsals!!!

Still, thats progress for ye.

I WILL check oot the kidney bean to at least satisfy my curiosity. I would say, I tried (the software) of the Guitar Rig (demo I think) and I wasnt mad on that at all....and that cost twice what the VAMP does but alas, twas jsut a demo.

I will say tho, I do love the VAMP :-D

Cheers...

Coco.

I dunno Forty..I dont think it was bad perse, I just dont think it was what I thought it would be I guess.

I didnt find the interface very intuitive and whilst the "look" was nice, the sounds behind it didnt seem worth the £300+ price!

But, I guess I never seen the hardware and it was a limited demo so who knows - I just dont think its for me I suppose. That, and I hear it cant be run as a plug and its a standalone...dunno for sure but I dinny fancy that too much!

Have you tried it/do you have it Forty?? I may be being gravely unjust, if so, I'd love to hear more as I am always lookin to expand ma guitar gear.

Cheers...

Coco
