Well, I don't think it will help with space, but I bought a couple of speaker stands from MF for PA speakers. Made a couple of oak topped "platers" mounted on 1' lengths of stainless muffler pipe with a flange. Now I use them for tall mic stands, performance speaker stands, and monitor stands on special ocasions. At $19.95 per stand it was a great deal!

I use Steroecilia www.stereocilia.com and they are awesome, isolating monitor stands, very cool. www.homerecordingconnecti...tory&id=353 is my personal view of them from earlier this year.

I built stands just last weekend...

18X18 plywood base...4x4 square wood post...12X12 plywood platform for the monitor...lined the base and platform w/ a rubber backed carpet tile and there ya go...

nothing suave, paint em black and go...

nice! getting your hands dirty...good to se Jason, kudos!

Oh, one great thing to do, if you can make the post from sheets of wood and leave the middle hallow, fill that middle with sand. Great sound isolation and vibration control.

actually i am working on a plan right now that invovles acouple of slab from an old birch tree for tops and plates and some 3- ft . birch posts i am thinking they will look very rustic and i think birch is dense enough not to vibrate too much ,although i am considering beech or maple but birch just has that cool bark .but any advice or suggestions are open right now and thanks as well

that could look super friggin cool. Just make DAMN SURE they are the same hieght and standa approximately same weight and such. Also, some rubber between the post and the plate, and the bottom plate and the floor.

Or, like mine do, they have like a heavy-duty pointed pin screwed in the bottom of the plate, it keeps it from skidding around on the carpet, plus, it's minimal contact between the stand and the floor, just four tiny points.

or you can just make a monitor stand out of all metal and take your monitor cones out and let the magnets stick the stand!!! that'll work!!
