M-Audio Omni-Studio USB Discontinued?

Hi,

I've just ordered the Omni-Studio
but it was backordered 12/13/04.
When I checked on the progress of
the order I found out that it has
now been backordered to 1/10/05.
Then they told me it was a discontinued
item.

Does anyone have any knowledge about
the reason it has been discontinued?
The reason that I'm asking this is that
if I can get a more updated version, I'd
rather have it. Does anyone know of any
problems with this unit which may have
caused them to discontinue it? Maybe
they've just added something which would
warrant this. Any info would help as this
is my first incursion into home recording.

Actually, I don't really have any info on this, but I did notice that the page for it on the m audio website didn't work. So I was assuming that it might be discontinued.

Larry;

So far, it doesnt cause any problems to me, the mic pre amp is one of the best that I've ever used. It's light, small and mobile. Its also quite good in terms of latency.

One possible cause maybe the USB itself. USB limits the data transfer (low bandwith) from the unit to the PC meaning you have to restrict a few things when using it. Example, If you wanna use 24bit and 96000kHz sampling rate; you can only use 2 ins no outs. For 16bit and with 44100kHz you can utilize 4 ins and 4 outs.

I have to forget the 24/96 operation and just use 24/48 with 2 ins and 2 outs at the time being.

I dunno.
