Hows it going? Im trying to get rid of unwanted gain on vocals. Is there anyway removing that air sound? Im using DINR and it doesnt really seem to be working. I was wondering if anybody had some tips or knew of any programs to use. Im currently using pro-tools LE on Mac OS 9.

Thanks

Wow, if a $1000 noise reduction program can't do it, I don't know what can! that thing costs more than my entire home recording setup.

I'm not sure what you're talking about when you say "unwanted gain". When I think "gain", I think of a pre-amp volume or the volume of some input, so I'm not sure what you mean when you say that its unwanted.

I'm not sure what you mean by "air sound" either. If you're using a condensor mic, it may be picking up some interference either from your computer monitor, or from the mechanical components inside your computer (cooling fans), or other sources of interference from around the house (light dimmers). Try moving your mic around some to find a spot with less interference.

Maybe you have an air conditioner that's being picked up? Other than that, I can't think of any noise that wouldn't be eliminated by a high-dollar noise reduction program.

Some of it is the sound of the fan and some of it is a low hiss or buzz.

1. isolate your computer from the microphone. make a box for your computer tower with just enough room for ventilation. get the mic as far away from it as possible.

2. get some acoustic foam around the recording space to kill those frequencies as they hit the walls

3. the low hiss or buzz sounds like unbalanced signals. make sure your running everything through balanced cables or DI boxes.

4. use parametric EQ to find the EXACT frequency of the remaining buzz/hum/fan noise, and cut those frequencies

i'm not sure if you are talking about the editing of an already recorded take (you're up a creek here), or that if this is a recurring problem hope these willthese will help)

Good luck!!
