Hmm..not sure in Cubase but in Sonar, it's as simple as inserting a VST, open that channel up to bring up it's interface and then hit record and play. Cubase users here will know for sure.

for some reason in my cubase i have to choose delta ap (emulated) for midi out. this is on the left side of the screen, in what they call "the inspector." delta ap is my soundcard. i have no idea why it only works if i choose 'emulated.'

soryr, i meant my midi in has to be to delta AP emulated. midi out must go to the VST instrument, which should appear in the drop down list. i think you would have already done this if you are able to play the VST, but if not...to get it into the drop down list:

hit F11. a VST instrument list comes up. choose the VST you want.

now when you go over to the inspector on the left, and you choose your midi in and out, the VST isntrument should appear in the dropdown list for midi out.

i dont know how much you have done here. you should also have this jazz going on:

1. you need a midi track in the project window. this is your VST track. insert>midi track.

2. after you've done the F11 thing, thereby selecting your VST instrument, and after you've set your in and outs on the inspector, you become able to:

3. access and play the VST by clicking the little 'e' button. which is either on the track or in the inspector, i forget. this calls up the VST instrument itself. 'e' is for edit.
