Looking For A Preamp

I want to compare what you guys like to what the GearGab section reccomends...

I basically want to be able to mic up my accoustics and direct record anything electronic, and was wondering what sort of preamp set-up i need. I don't think i need a mixer because I'm recording one track at a time, but i honestly dont know very much about it and if anyone things i should opt for a mixer rather then just preamp(s) please let me know.

Maybe something like this would be up your alley:

service.bfast.com/bfast/c...mp;bfmtype=gear

It has 2 channels just in case you decide to dual-mic your acoustic or if you want to run a couple of instruments at once. I hear that the preamps are good and transparent.

Mixers aren't essential, but they're a "nice-to-have", especially if you use any outboard effects. I think that most people here use a mixer somewhere in their home recording setup.

I personally dig a mixer because of the flexibility. Once you've got a mixer and three or four mics, you can literally spend all day long getting different great sounds. Not only do you get a direct acoustic sound, but you can get ambient sounds from the room, stereo micing, you can do a whole drumkit, play a guitar through two cabs and mic both, etc. My mixer really opened the door for a broader scope for all of my projects. Now if I can just get that new souncard........

friend,

i just bought the behringer tube ultragain mic 100 pre-amp. it gives me a lot of gain, and warmth to the sound i recorded. you can plug XLR and 1/4 jack into it. and the output is the same jack (XLR and 1/4)

first i want to buy the UB 802 mixer, but after long discussion with the dealer... they suggested to buy the pre-amp. and it was right. may be you would like to try the same.
