Hi, im looking into making tracks to go with my lyrics, but have no clue whatsoever. Ideally, a pc based recording system is what i want. What PC hardware do you recommend? what software? I've been told Fruity loops is good. How does it work? recommend any detailed websites for complete beginners? The genre im going for is hiphop/rnb. any step-by-step guides?

i feel totally lost, so i really appreciate any help. thanks.

Perhaps not on it's own, but it should have told you what you would need to tell us in order for us to recommend something.

For beat making I prefer Cakewalk Kinetic www.homerecordingconnecti...tory&id=394 but am now getting more and more into Cakewalk Project5 www.homerecordingconnecti...tory&id=295 which is Kenitic with a turbo charger.

You will need a decent setup to record on your PC. I will take it your PC is at least half decent, so I would recommend:

Soundcard:
Audiophile 2496

Mixer (with built-in pre-amp):
I have a Eurorack, but there are tons out there.

Mic:
one with decent read quality $40-$60 at least

Software:
It's your choice of what you want to use...You will need Multitrack recording software if you want to record multiple tracks (vocals, drums, bass, etc) Some Multitrack software avaliable is Cubase, Calkwalk, Reason.

And Mastering software: I recommend Wavelab.

Hope this helps a bit.

I agree totally with the soundcard and mixer (Behringer 1202 Eurodesk). For a mic, I suggest a MXL 990. It's a cheap, but good large condenser mic. You can get all of this from Musicians Friend service.bfast.com/bfast/c...e=homepage_text . For a recording application, there's a free one online named Krystal or Kristal or something like that. For beats, you can get the shareware drum program Leafdrums and get some samples from meanbeats or anywhere else that has drum samples you like. You create your beats through Leafdrums and write them to a .wav file. Open them up in your recording application and record your lyrics on a separate track while listening to your beats through headphones preferably. The mic plugs into your mixer, the mixer plugs into the soundcard ins. The soundcard outs go into the tape ins on your mixer. Your headphone plugs into the headphone jack on your mixer. A setup like that should get you on the right track for recording.

Inside multitracking apps like Sonar or Cubase, you can use drum machines such as FL or, my current favorite, Battery 2 from Native Instruments (look for the review coming on Friday) and make those beats right inside of your full recording app.

hey there um you will probably want a MIDI key board/controller get the one you can afford it will do for now you obvisiouly need a softstudio
that part is up to you do some research there's quite a few options so find one that looks like it would suite your needs I use reason in my opinion its the best as for fruity loops I absolutly hate it again just my opinion you will need to make your own assumptions there's demos out there so try out multiple programs
you'll need some more gear and software if you plan on recording vocals post again with a little more detail
