I need some opinions on the following speaker monitors that I've classified as my top three to purchase. I do PC recording and record anything from rock, to hip/hop, to pop alternative. Here are the three:
1. Event TR8XL: Powered monitors. 150w
2. Yamaha MSP5A: Powered monitors. 67w
3. M-Audio BX8: Powered monitors. 130w
Do I "need" the extra sub woofer on this?
An extra $500...ugh! But I like the "Acoustic Space Control" feature.
Hey dbMasters, I've looked for the JBL 4206's like you suggested but can't find them. Even on e-bay. Nowhere to be found. So here are my top three choices I'm considering. Any and all suggestions are welcome. Price is not an issue. I just want superb quality for anything from rock/rap/hip hop/pop/techno, etc.

Nov 23, 2004 10:42 am If you are just mixing down to stereo don't go with a subwoofer, it'll just make problems unless you have a good SPL meter to calibrate them with.
And don't forget that ESI makes some greta monitors esi-pro.com/listProduct.php?ctgr=13 and have a new set coming out shortly I may get a chance to look at and review...
Nov 23, 2004 09:53 pm Thanks, dbMasters, I'll definitely check out the ESI's. When will the "new" ones be out...in a month or two? What makes them better than the three that I mentioned above?
What is the general opinion of the three studio monitors I mentioned? I've done a lot of checking out and comparing on-line, and these three "seemed" to be some good top notch monitors for home studios. Am I missing something? Will the M-Audio BX8's still be awesome even without the separate woofer? I would think that it would be. Just looking for "great" home studio monitors. Just wanna be "WOWed".

Nov 23, 2004 10:43 pm well, to be honest, you won't be "wowed" with anything under $1500.
You will have to learn yor monitors no matter which you choose. None of these will make you a master mixer, nor will you turn out awsome mixes right away.
And try not to get too caught up in the equipment, get something that doesn't suck and you'll be ok.
It's the ear, not the gear.
