Vamp-2

Ok, I bought one of these Vamp-2's a few months back and put it on the shelf after about a week because I wasnt real happy with it. I broke it out yesterday and played with it a little more and found that it can sound respectable with a little tweaking. The only problem I still cant seem to get around is this thing makes a lot of noise. Does anyone have an idea to help here. Its not the guitar, I use the same guitar with other effects units and do not have the same problem. Is it just the nature of this beast? Thanks!

I use this same modeller and dont have any probs. You do find the heavy distortions are noisey, but then, so are distorted amps!

There is a noise gate you can use on the vamp2...you mibbe want to mess with that a little.

I find I have little bother as I never use max distortion anyway - that might be the problem.

Good luck anyways.

I also have the Vamp2 and agree that is quite a noisy unit even with relatively mild distortion patches. I even tried putting it through the external distortion effects loop of a Zoom 8080 multi-effects unit partly to see if I could clean it up with it's own noise reduction system. Seemed to make it even worse. Maybe the problem would not be as bad with one of the Line6 PODs. Since the introduction of the Vamp2, which you gotta admit is superb value for money, Line6 have responded with a price drop in some of their units making them equally attrctive.

I have the VAmp Pro rack unit and I find it noisy too...although I haven't tweaked it one bit other than model sounds...having it plugged into my system I can tell it does produce a hiss...

interesting, I find my Bass Vamp pro quite nice and very quiet.

Just another example of why bassist rock and guitarists suck.

LOL @ dB-wan. Yes, it's the thinner G-Strings that does it.

I have the Digitech RP80A, and tweaking can get rid of 80% of the noise (noise gates as Coco mentioned). I found that my favourite sound is to have a second unit (in my case a SansAmp Tri-AC) do the distortion, and tweak the cleaner setting on the Digitech. Very nice. The high distortion sounds on the RP80A are sometimes a bit too "wasp in a jar" for my liking, so I don't use many of them. I guess they are the noisy ones.
