Gate to avoid Computer Noise?

I use my pc to do most of my recording, but i can't seem to resolve the issue of background noise created by the fans, etc. would a noise gate be the tool to use to solve this problem? if so, what kind of settings would be ideal. im using adobe audition (cool edit) in case that helps anyone in giving a more specific solution. thanks.

Hello, and welcome to HRC.

I gate would help somewhat, but remember, when "the gate is open" it lets all sound in. The best bet would be getting better fans, a more solid, better built case, move the mic further away, and/or perhaps isolating it inside a little box you can build cheaply with plywood and matressfoam or something. Just make sure to leave enough room in the case so there can be SOME air cirulating around it and perhaps a vent on the side opposite your microphones...

this is interesting. i also have problem with noise when i record to my pc. because i connect the mic directly to the soundcard mic input. where all the noise come from? is it from the PC fan? or electronically generated because my soundcard is onboard?
or because my ground connection is bad?

An outburst for perfection

Monitors can cause noise, best to turn them off when recording.
