No Not Paris Hilton..but have any of you had experience with Paris recording/mix/master software? I was told by a small studio operator that it is far superior to ProTools now and that he only keeps a ProTools setup in his studio to prove it. Thoughts?

Paris is from EMU/Ensoniq as I recall (or was at one time). From what I recall I dindn't personally like it, I can't remember exactly why though...I'll try to find a link.

Jeezuz, I can't find ANYTHING...is it even in production any more? My last experience with Paris was back in 2000/2001 or so...

Well, on the EMU web site, Paris is listed as a "legacy product" which it shows the last update in the support section being 14 months ago.

Yeah I just joined this local cover band to help finance my cd project... the drummer has a studio and uses this system... like I said ...he just gushes about it. I heard it there in his studio, but I am more of a performer than studio savvy..and I know I have hearing damage after all these years..plus I was listening to it in a new environment.. perhaps if I heard it on my home system I may have a valid opinion. But he says that many gold and platinum albums are produced through the Paris system. The praise for this that hits home for me is his comment that it is warmer and doesn't have the digital sheen of ProTools. I was told too that Paris has been bought and sold over the years but is now being revived/enhanced and beta tested.

I'd be curious to know, if you can find out, who owns it now and where we can take a look at it.

Also, consider that there are many other systems than ProTools and Paris, also many that have many credits in the professional world as well. Cubase and Nuendo are two biggies, especially Nuendo, which is starting to take on ProTools. Cakewalk Sonar is good and many pros use it in their home studios, Sony Vegas (formerly Sonic Foundry Vegas) is quite popular espeically in film scoring and such.

There are a ton out there, each with their own credits and such. Also, digital is digital, there are processors out there, plugin effects to simulate the analog warmth, some that are quite impressiive. PSP Vintage Warmer and Steinberg Magneto come to mind right away, and they work in most any system that supports their plugin format.

Seriously though, I would be curious to have more info about the new owner, version and web address for Paris so I can check it out, maybe contact the new owners for more info regarding the product.

Paris was not and is not a cheap system. They have several issues that led to the demise of the system. The system is no longer manufactered but there are several sites out there with info about it. Just do a google on Ensoniq Paris and you find several of them.

However there are many who have had great luck with it and still use it to this day. The sytem began life in the 90's and died shortly after its birth. There is a site with a group who attained some rights to write some more current software and drivers. www.myparispro.com/ Of which sometimes it runs stable, and other times it doesnt.

I personally would look into a used Otari Radar II or a newer Otari Product.

Well, since E-MU owns Ensoniq now you would think that would be a reasonable search.

Here are a couple other sites with more stuff to say about Paris.

They teach it at the University of Hartford. I was wondering what it was, too.

Well if they are still teaching it then it must still be a viable format. Same as the older Otari Radar II which isnt made by Otari anymore.
