I live 4 1/2 miles from the city centre of Edinburgh and Edinburgh Castle itself which I can see from ma hoose.
Now, I had planned to nip up to ma studio in the loft and record some vocals for a track am working on!!
BANG! Right oot the windae..why!! DAMN FIREWORKS NIGHT !! The end of the Edinburgh Festival means fireworks night...over a HOUR of bloody fireworks from Edinburgh Castle which is awesome to watch - thousands of firewrorks light up the night sky but...
THOUSANDS OF BANGS IN MA LOFT!! What a damn racket it makes...hard to believe 4 1/2 miles away and am blown out cause of the fireworks..Even tho I have an SM58 it still picks this damn thing up!!
So...it'll need to wait. Damn - my inspiration has gone up in smoke wi the fireworks! :-(

Sep 05, 2004 04:31 pm Ah I know the feeling... sudden inspiration at 2am ...but there is 1 cricket...someplace... :)
Sep 05, 2004 05:20 pm For sure Zek...for sure.
Still, if I had a condenser, my sessions would really need to be planned unless excessive "family ambience" is a cool thing to have in a rock song!!!
Some how flushing lavvies and showers/taps running wouldnt really go in ma songs :-) !!
Joys of the home recording enthuasiast I guess.

Sep 05, 2004 07:19 pm wow--that description of the fireworks over edinburgh castle. it seems like you live in a different world over there, coco. gales, castles. sucks about the recording but it sounds like a sight to see.

Sep 05, 2004 09:00 pm coco, you made me laugh so dang hard about that. I dunno if its just the way you spell it out so graphically or not. Maybe it was the fact I was so stocked about gettin the new mixer up and running and I ended up dumping my PC moniter and all my other gear on the top shelf on my head. And that your story made me think of my own little misshap again, but really think it was just the dang story and the way you tell it.
Anyway, bummer on the noize and all, but the inspiration will return and you'll get it sussed.

Sep 05, 2004 09:28 pm I understand what ya mean coco. I live in a townhouse(I'm not sure what you would call 'em in your neck of the woods) Anyway, I'll start to lay down a track and then...vrrrRRRRRROOOOMM...a motorcycle will come flying by or a dog starts barkin'; drives me nuts!! I guess it's all part of the home recording game.
we hear ya buddy, keep on pluggin' away !

Sep 08, 2004 09:43 pm Nay lump on my head, just a bit of my price damaged as to my own stupidity for undoin the bolt before I thought about the fact it was holding all that weight up.
Lucky for me Tuna ws helping me and dragged the thing off my head or acutally my back is were it ended up.
Anyway it all turned out good and Im just about all back up and running again.
Even got the new drum trigger kit all set up and configured for proper drumming now. And thanx to Ben over at Music Go Round I even got a newer TD-6 V-Drum brain for it and it sound stupendous. I am still of course happy with my DM5 but the TD-6 sounded way better then I expected so its all good.
Sep 09, 2004 06:32 am That sounds like it could have been nasty...I almost wrecked my PC and a pile of gear moving my studio up the loft to its new home...
I have a dodgy ladder and almost fell right thru the hatch with the base unit, preamp and drum machine :-(... but didnt..thank God!
Good to hear you didnt do any serious damage dude....to yourself or the gear.

Sep 09, 2004 08:07 am I've gotten used to the idea that friday nights are nixxed for recording in the summer. There's a car race track about 1/2 mile away. They have four lap races that last about 5 minutes each, so i hear the engine vrooms twice a lap.
It's great to just stand there for 5 minutes and wait for them to stop racing and get set up for the next race, which is about 10 minutes.

Sep 09, 2004 10:25 pm Ya, I am lucky and dont get much noise through into the studio at all. Or the entire house for that matter. New windows and doors are really tight, worth every penny to me for the quiet.
And ya, I was more worried about the equipment then me. It probably cost less to fix me then the gear.
Sep 10, 2004 06:12 am I guess small town life has its advantages! Now if I could only get those darn birds to stop tweetin' and the crickets to quit their chirpin' so loud! Guess I'll have to close my windows!
