Behringer eurorack and buses

Hi all,
Im confused about the intended and practical uses of the outs from the UB1204FX-PRO mixer.

They consist of balanced xlr main outs, alt3-4bus outs and control room outs.

I have been using the main outs to feed the line ins of my audio 2496 soundcard but i am not sure this is the right way of doing things. I read somewhere the alt3-4 bus outs should feed the soundcard and the control room outs the booth monitors (duh)however then what is the purpose of the main outputs??
And which should i use for realtime monitors(aux sends???)
