I hope you guys are enjoying your weekends... For some of us in the states, it's a 3-day weekend on account of Memorial Day. After 2 months of total musical inactivity, I'm apparently exploding with creative energy... got up this morning and finished writing a song idea that had been running through my head for several days now. So from a blank "canvas", I've now got the first track to the song recorded - a guitar "scratch" track, played to a metronome. Some days you get and up the creative juices are just flowing... I sat down and plugged in, and in 25 minutes I had birthed this thing from a little humming tune into verses, chorus, bridge, etc. Anyhow, it's just a good feeling to get it out, you know? So now it's just a matter of tracking and retracking the various instruments. I guess I'm especially pleased with this just because, for me at least, the first track is the hardest, since it forces you to really make concrete all the ideas you've only heard in your mind up until then.

So anyway, I just thought I'd share that. If my luck holds, I'll have a couple of new ones done soon. Anybody working on any new musical stuff this weekend? Hopefully you all enjoy your days off - and if you don't get a day off tomorrow, may ya get one soon!

well... i'm done editing my guitars for about half of our album. day 2 of recording starts today for a client. other than that, nothing really creative other than some miking and production.

oh yeah... my uncle is racing today in the Indy 500. PJ Jones for Curb Records' car # 98

wow, thats cool elmusico! and congratulations, tin.

me, i started two new songs this week (rather than finish any of the 20 half-finished ones i have--something i would do if i could only make DECISIONS). anyway, i've been listening to NIN's the downward spiral a lot, and have started returning to the keys for writing. i'm not creative enough on the guitar. and i want to work on my drum sequencing too, because it's annoying me. i've been listening to the NIN song 'reptile' over and over again. the layers he uses in the percussion track are just so genius. lush little musical stabs in there, and swells, etc. the song sounds huge because the drums are huge, and that distortion kicks in for just two chords, but it's enough. i want to break myself of the habit of always just playing the guitar as loud and as hard as i can. it feels amateur to me, and i gotta get to the point where i can write more layered, interesting things.

so thats where i'm at.

i think my uncle is maybe drinkin' this weekend.

Very cool guys! Count me in for a musical weekend. Saturday was spent recording vocals for a client and Sunday mixing and mastering. These guys are great to work with. Three of four are real perfectionists while not suffering from huge ego problems. Just a lot of fun.
