I've just placed orders for computer parts for a dedicated audio recording PC. I also just placed my order for a delta 1010lt through MF (following the link$ from here, of cour$e).

After many late nights going over the threads here and on other boards, (and a little while at work) I think the 1010lt is the ticket.

I'm just starting out after some somewhat successful attempts with n-track, fruityloops and a SB PCI128 card. I've made a band rehearsal room in my garage that I'll be doing recording in as soon as I can get stuff figured out.

A few mental ramblings before stuff shows up;

1. I have the option of installing win98se or win2000. I'm thinking win2000 on a dedicated OS drive so the NTFS can work and the OS doesn't bogart any cycles or space on the music drive. Anybody care to comment on 2000 vs 98se, as far as compatibility with the 1010lt and n-track?

2. I may be upgrading the power supply (the specs said Ultra 400w) as i'm not sure it'll be quiet enough, or stable enough, as someone stated somewhere. Any comments on this as well?

3. This is an awesome resource (among others) and would just like to say it's been a pleasure reading up on stuff here and looking over some of you'se guy's shoulders.

I can't wait for stuff to show up so I can get cooking.

Well, first, thanks for the support by buying thru MF :-) Glad you are finding the site helpful.

WIndows 2000 vs Windows 98se is an unfair battle :-) Windows 2000 is much more stable and has a much more secure file system, you are FAR better off using it. 98 is OK, se got better, but 2000 and XP are surely the way to go if you can. And yes, a dedicated OS/applications drive and a dedicated audio file drive is a great idea.

Regarding the power supply, how noisy it is doesn't really depend on how big it is, but more how good of a power supply you buy. The better (and more expensive) the power supply the better the fans are in it, which is what generally makes them noisy or not.

Oh, and welcome to HRC ;-)
