Sync Sonar & Audio Input

Quick question (with a GREAT IMPACT) :-)

Is there any way at all I can set Sonar to start recording automatically when an audio signal is input.

Scenario is, I want it to record my drum machine automatically (which has no midi out/only midi in and thats another big smelly problem!).

Anyway, I want Sonar to record, as soon as I press play on the drum machine. IS this possible? The reason I ask is, I have to start Sonar/drum machine as close to together as I can but this is nigh on impossible. REsult is, I then have to cut the start of the drum track which is a real pain and very rarely cuts it EXACTLY to the first sound in the track!

Help is always appreciated.

Cheers

Coco.

I am not sure about the problem you asked about, as I don't use external drum machines, however, let me ask you this...have you ever considered using a VSTi drum machine right in Sonar. I have Project5 and it has a drum machine called "Velocity" that is totally programmed within Sonar itself, no record to be done...there are others, such as FruityLoops, and tho I am not sure, Sonar 2.2 may have some sort of a drum machine bundled with it...but like I said, I am not sure about that.

I think I understand what he's asking... INstead of having to manual click in the record button in sonar and then click play on the drum machine, he wants the drum machine to trigger sonar to record when the play button is hit.
I'm not sure if this is possible, if it is it's news to me, but I do have a couple ideas to what you can do. If you had a wireless keyboard you could use that as a remote control for starting and stopping the audio engine. So you could have the keyboard right next to the drum machine and then just hit "R" and "play" simultaniously or as close to simultaniously as you can, and hit Spacebar to stop the recording.
One other thing you can do is record the machine like you are now, export it to a wave editor where you can make your cuts and editing, and then import the edited file back to sonar.

Coco, you should be able to set the Zoom drum machine to start when you hit record in Sonar. Look for a parameter in the midi section of the Zoom called sync, and it should be set up to listen for start, stop, continue. It should be easy to find, and probly in the manual if you got the manual with it.

Let me know if thsi helps at all.

Cheers guys.

Noize - I think I know what you mean. This was gonny be my next move (I think) but then my PC started crashing and it wis only after I installed the USB MIDI thing!

I presume this was what caused it (it was a BAD error). Blue screen and crashed - couldnt do anything. A serious warning appeared and metnioned IRQ (which is weird cause the USB thing doesnt have one!).

So...I put it aside just now. But when I am brave enuff to try again I will try this.

As ever - thanks for your help.

Coco.
