Behringer or Mackie?

Hi, I am brand new to this board and wish I would have found it a lot earlier. My band and I are finally getting around to buying equipment, and the first thing on our list is a mixer. I have narrowed our choices down to two brands: Mackie or Behringer. I've never used a Behringer mixer, but I've heard they are good. I've had experience with the Mackie CFX20, and I like it, but don't really use any of the effects. I was wondering if you guys could suggest a good 24 channel mackie or behringer mixer.

Behringer mixers are good, and in fact most of us here use one or two in our set up, and they cost a hell of a lot less than a mackie

service.bfast.com/bfast/c...mp;bfmtype=gear that Behringer is a GREAT mixer. Mackie does have slightly better preamps which is only audible with certain sounds and signal analysis gear. If you were building a world class studio or live sound system, I might say to consider a Mackie, but truth is a Behringer are the far superior bang for the buck. I have the 1622FX-Pro myself and love it.

Myself, and many of us here are very pro-Behringer on the whole Mackie/Behringer debate :-)

And let me offer a sincere "Welcome to HRC" :-)

I think Behringer is better Value.
Comparing price to performance I Think Behringer comes out on top.

To my ears my Behringer has equal sound quality to a Mackie. I have the MX9000 which is a 24 channel board. I love the individual outputs and 2nd channel inputs for hooking all 24 channels directly to my recorder and being able to play back with no re-patching. I also love the cost differential.

Relitive to durability, reliability and serviceability....I have no idea. I have yet to have a problem with my Behringer. The construction seems to me to be very solid. I have never crash tested it.

If you are looking to open a studio for the purpose of recording for the general public, I would consider the Name appeal of the Mackie. Most musicians, especially those who play electric instruments are very brand consious. The Impress-O-factor.

Personally I agree with dB. Unless you are going to put together a studio which will appeal to established groups with the cash hire a "world class" studio I would not waste my bucks.

i am starting to think about trading in my mackie 1604 to get a behringer mx9000. but i like the fact that i have a mackie(im impressive). but im still not sure on the better preamps. mackie has the better reputation. and how does the EQ on the behringers sound? there are 4 band sweepable mids if i remember right on the behringer.hmm only 3 band sweepable on the mackie. that EQ might be the difference i need to play with both for a day to make my choice.

I use an MX2442a desk and love it. If I had the room to get behind the desk I would opt for the 9000 but alas space is my enemy.

i sat at guitar center for 3 hours the other day playing with a mackie 1604 and a behringer mx 2442a. i did recording and playback on several different monitors i even brought stuff i recorded peviously to remix at the store-----------i like the fact that the behringer has a 4 band EQ, too bad the mackie EQ sounded way better as for the preamps no contest mackie won. i use a 1604 in my house my friend uses a behringer i thought there wasnt much difference till i used them side by side
price-behringer wins
eq- behringer wins
aux sends-behringer wins
preamps and overall sound - mackie hands down
it is THAT noticable side by side since every multitrack, mic, effect, outboard pre, compressor etc. is wired through you console and the final mix is done on the console your stuff will only sound as good as your mixer

i realize that if we could all afford a BMW we would all be driving one. if you have the money and its no concern then dont even look at behringer --well the ub is better than the mx by far but the ub isnt any bigger than a 12 channel mixer and look out for the new ONYX series mixer from mackie in the next few months--
