Driver issue or something strange...

Ever since I started using the ASIO drivers for my Delta 44 on Windows XP, I've been having trouble with playback on Windows Media Player and other system audio programs. If I play a CD, there's no sound... It plays but nothing comes out. But as soon as I open up Sonar 3 suddenly it starts working. Then when I close out Sonar, it keeps on playing until I move to the next track or hit stop and then try to play the CD again. What's going on? Some sort of funky driver issue? I would think that it would stop, not start playing when I open Sonar if that was the case.

Porp,
I had the same problem when I installed my M-Audio Audiophile 2496 card a few months back. Evidently Sonar bypasses the higher-level windows interface to the soundcard and gets windows pointed to the right soundcard. This feature over-rides & fixes the problem with the other windows audio apps. Per M-Auio tech support recommendation, I went back to the previous version of their ASIO driver (5.10.00.27 instead of their latest 5.10.00.29). Now all my standard windows sound apps will play through my M-Audio with or without Sonar running (provided you go into Control Panel -> Sounds & Audio Devices and point windows to the right soundcard).

In the windows control panel, how do you have your audio device defined? Select the M-Audio, don't let it use sound mapper or any garbage windows mapper like that. Select the M-Audio specifically.

I use the Audiophile 2496/SOnar 3 WIndows XP and have no problems with WMP or any system sounds at all. It works awesome, and I am using the .29 drivers.

Yeah, I have M-Audio Delta 44 1/2 selected in the sound conrol panel. Is that what you're talking about? I don't want to go back to the old drivers :( I just upgraded again after upgrading and then downgrading because the new ones kept quitting on me when I was using Sonar 1... Oh well... It seems like there must be another way to fix this.

Me too. I find it annoying to have to use an old driver to fix a problem. That's what new drivers are supposed to do. If anybody knows of the 'real' fix It'd be peachy.

I am set up the same as dB with the Delta 44 and have no problems either. I can switch between my Delta or the SB card for windows sounds or media player and so on without any trouble.

Oh well, I guess I can just leave Sonar open all the time since that's just about all I use the computer for...
