AOL users beware.

OK, AOL has implemented a new "feature" which they claim helps stop spam from getting to your mailbox. Fact is it blocks a VAST amount of server, including this one and almost every other server in the datacenter HRC is in. It's been recently announced that Hotmail and MSN will be starting to use this same "feature". Therefore, subscriptions to forums and other such things won't work for you.

Your best course of action is to complain to AOL. The admins of the datacenter HRC is in are working very hard trying to get AOL to remove these blocks, but AOL does not seem to care much.

Just an FYI, submitted for your consideration in finding a new internet service provider.

hmm.. it's funny though, that AOL would be trying to help people avoid spam, when they actively sell your email address anyways! when i was with them and i'd set up a new screen name from time to time, i would start getting junk mail almost immediately

yeah. AOHell users: one more good reason to move on and get a real ISP.

That's not AOL selling your address, that's the magic of the "wildcard".

it sucks cuz I am getting email from my hosting clients saying they can't send email to AOL people...and I have to give the cop-out answer "tell it to AOL"...basically passing the blame, which sounds cheeky.

A "wildcard" is a type of thing where you can just have a random string generator type of tool and just send email to anything it generates@aol.com

So it's a lame spammer tool more than AOL who is at fault there...

I still have an aol address, cuz, we all grew from the aol email format here at my house, i have "learned" to despise it, as any corporate i am attached to. I always surf independently of it, as i hate it the way I do,mosy people do. But you got your basic MS corporate scheme of themes, to also hate while yet unlearned enough to be independent of it.. although I have read of others who know the way and teach openly to those with time & inclination to follow through with this worthy activity. They all suck when you get down to it. But thats just it.. thats really all I want to do, GET DOWN! HA HA HA
No really I am trying to learn and be less a part of the problem,etc...Oh yeah what i wanted to add;
I was going to join the anandtech forum and found that my email address had been cataloged as invalid...
All I know is i don't know sh#TTTT
but listen to my music anyway & tell me if you think it sux!

Yes, a lot of forums will not let you register with anonomous email addresses such as yahoo.com, excite.com and things like that...Ihave thought about starting such a scheme myself, but haven't because I don't want to treat people that way, some folks only get on the net from school or the library and only have Hotmail accounts...

Yeah, I have an AOL account that I've never used and it has never gotten any e-mail yet, so I don't think AOL is selling your address.

Anyways, I'm going to be switching providers eventually, although I've been using AOL for I think 10 years or something... I'll be switching when I get DSL if the time ever comes.

Give AOL's postmaster a call. It may take a few days, but you'll get off the ban-list (I recently spent a few hours on the phone with them).

Actually, AOL now has a judgement against them from a big datacenter suit to remove bans from that DC, but they are ignoring it so far...I forget which datacenter at the moment, but I know a few others are contemplating the same action, or joining...

CI host. Still, if you call them, it'll get sorted out pretty quick, at least much faster than if you wait for someone else to do it.

I've never used AOL and I'm glad. I'm using roadrunner currently, granted I have a hotmail account though

Well we have Cox Broadband....and AOL for the misses. (she likes their user interface) When I get some BS from AOL, I love being able to just drop kick it out of the way...hop in my IE, and tear it up again!! I do like having the both of them, as it makes me well aware of the lil poopoo AOL is....Being able to switch in and out of each completely and at the same time is a grin. But for the money...I think AOL is a pretty sorry deal, heck its even based on IE!!! AS I found out one night trying to get some tweaks for AOL!!
