Hello-
I have a question about Drivers and Bits
I'm recording at 24-bit/44.1 k. into Windows XP and Cakewalk HS XL 2002. Through an Edirol UA-5.
I am using input levels as high as possible to get all/most my bits.
Question:
Will WDM driver get me MORE bits than the MME driver?,
or will the WDM just get me Higher Quality Bits than MME? Or is there a difference.?
Thanks

Aug 28, 2003 08:48 pm WDM will offer lower latency than the MME driver. It may also offer you access to more sample rate / bit depths depending on how the drivers are written.
Hower, it should have nothing to do with sound quality.
Oh, and whilst it's good to maintain a high input level, don't go over the top and let things clip. :)

Aug 28, 2003 08:55 pm Thank you, this is really good to hear
I never let things clip and even have found that some things actually sound better tracked at -6db or so. Although I know I won't be getting all my bits that way ...
I don't mind the latency because all my intrumentation is analog in, and I can monitor from my Edirol
excellent
thanks
