I seriously need to read about multiband compressors, mainly the Waves C4. Any reference on that? Jues can you write about it? Please?

i've dabbled with the free VST multiband comp from MDA and i realize that it's great being able to focus on a particular band instead the whole channel, there's such and added degree of control, so i'm anxious to hear what jues has to offer on multiband comp. wake up jonny!

no! i would never make fun of someone in a thread about multiband compression, precisely the topic i am most interested in. i've been rubbing my hands in anticipation for two days. which has caused a real problem in terms of raw skin loss.

waiting on jues to recover from his latest gaming binge. :O)

in the mean time, try thinking of it as a combination of several compressors, each accepting the outputs of a crossover. you choose the crossover frequency and then you get to mess with the individual bands before they get mixed back together into one.

i've gotten lucky a few times and resulted in wow results

It's coming - I'm writing it offline and I'll submit it as a tute in a couple of days. I'm explaing the function and uses.

well, jues is i guess pretty busy these days. havent seen him in many months. but i dont think i've seen the multiband article here yet. i really hate to bring this up again, but does anyone--maybe some of the new peeps--use multiband compression on electric guitars? one time jues ran my guitars through a multiband and he made them shine, a really pro sound that was just what i'd been looking for. if i knew how to do this, my probs would be over.

Hey Forty

What app are you using (is it Cubase?). If so, there are some presets within the Multiband Comp plug within this app for guitars - may be a good starting point...

You can also try the Kjaerhus stuff (a very easy to use little plug for comp to be had as well as other effects - with lots of presets).

www.kjaerhusaudio.com/products.php - look for the "classic" series and donwload em - all free.

I tend not to use the m/b comp on my guitars except acoustics...seem to get good results double trackin the geetars withoot much else.

nice mang. i will get those kjaerhus things. yes, i use cubase but i wanted to learn how to actually tweak the thing. im not sure what jues did, but he tailored his settings to mu distortion tone and really made it come alive. like in a near-pro way.

Aye, I think this one of the last great uncharted voids of knowledge for me. I should really stop being so damn lazy and look into WHY the whole comp thing works sometimes and other times, it dont!!

I will do this on my next EP. Im not going for sonic perfection but I do wanna improve technically.

Good luck tho Forty...if ya get there...mind and let me know the way!

Oh yeah..and get those plugs for sure. Top notch they are.

Easy to work and actually look like hardware models which is cool.
