cubase midi sync

...having some trouble with this.

i am now working with midi out from my triton, no problem.

i've been able to slave the triton clock to cubase's clock, no problem.

what i need to be able to do is to get cubase's clock to slave to my old 8-track recorder so that i can port files into cubase and have them line up with the measures as they were lined up originally in the 8-track. that means sending midi time code from the 8-track to the computer. i got that working. i can hit 'record' on cubase and it will wait until i hit play on the 8-track, then they proceed in sync measure for measure. the problem is that cubase doesn't actually record. although i've primed it by pressing record, when the timecode arrives, cubase PLAYS. i tried inserting a punch in marker on measure one, but no go.

anyone know what's going on here? this is the only way i can conceive of doing this. i really need those measure to sync up or else editing becomes impossible.

Hey forty.

Well, first off, I do very little work with syncing, so this is a bit of a stab in the dark, but what the hey...

Cubase waits for you to press play on the 8-track? Well, set the tracks up to record (arm them, so the red record light comes on for them), and then press the * key (on the Numric keypad) - now hit play on the 8-track.

Didn't work? damn...

Okay, my other suggestion is - why not make Cubase the master synch and the 8-track slave to it? That should work with fewer hitches (as cubase is always in control)

Oh hang on, just thought have something. On the transport bar (F2), there is a blue "Master" button - make sure that this is no lit, that may be causing the problem?

jues.

I also have a problem along similar lines if anyone can help.

I am trying to get the midi that I have recorded out of the MV 30 into Cubase 4. I can get it to record but it all comes out on the one track. Is the anyway of getting it record each track from the midi sequencer onto individual track in cubase?

jues,

i would do what you suggested, if only my 8-track had a midi in...boss didn't construct it that way, though.

my master button was not armed. i will try your * suggestion, next session. i wonder what * is for?thanks for the tips.

pottsy, sounds like you have to assign each track its own midi channel. if that doesnt work you can mute every track but one, and record the tracks one by one onto different tracks in your sequencer?

phew. problem solved.

turns out you cannot arm auto-punch-in at the very leftmost point on the grid. you just have to move your punch in marker forward, as little as you like. or at least--thats what i did. and now when cubase hits it, it starts recording and stays in sync!

thanks
