i have an old AT (5-pin) keyboard (MIDI) that uses an adapter for the newer (pre-usb) PS/2 input (the purple and green ins for most computers' mouse and keyboard). i was wondering if anyone knew if there were free drivers out there that can turn that into a MIDI IN for setting up my MIDI CONTROLLER??? if it helps, i have a ps/2 to usb adapter, but i doubt that will help because thats converting 5 pins to 6 pins to usb (too much for trying to find such a specific drivers... i think i should stick to looking for a 5 pin to 6 pin driver)... ANYWAYS im trying to get sonar to BE my drum machine live, or at least for just recording if it delays... i have a yamaha pmc1 for the midi controller... ABSOLUTELY ANY ADVICE MIGHT HELP ME GET CLOSER!!! like i said though, i know there are cheap as hell adapters for this.... im NOT trying to buy anything else right now. im trying to solve the problem not work around it because this has also caught my interest. thanks in advance, -mikey

Another option, rather than 5Pin DIN cable to PS2 would be a 5Pin DIN to a joystick port that one would find on their sound card...that is the typical cable for MIDI, I have personally never heard of using a PS2.

As far as traffic goes, relax, its the holiday season, things often come and go over that time as people are taking vacations, travelling for the holidays and such.

lol i understand its not typical to us the ps/2, cuz i cant find anything that will let me do this... i dont have a joystick port, i saw alot of people use that as a midi in too.. i wish i had that, it seems so normal to have so i checked all my computers and none of them had em lol. sucks. im sure its not that farfetched of an idea to think someone out there has made a driver turning midi signal into (which is a standard thing) into a 6-pin DIN, just change some pins to off and the direction of flow with the type of binary code that it is... i think its just a -1, 0, +1 code... who has thought of it?!

As computers get increasingly integrated into a single motherboard, some things fall behind...joystick posts tend to be one of them. That said, you can buy, very inexpensively, joystick port addon cards or very cheap sound card (lame sound blaster knockoff type cards) and many come with a joystick ports. So you could add one easily should finances allow.

i got a Creavite SB Live! PCI that sonar picks up as a MIDI card. its got a connection that looks like a 20pin but i have no idea.. my computer is in a tight spot and im sure the number wouldnt matter... ive been looking for this XXpin to MIDI cable (as an accessory) but i cant find one! they all come with the card and the cable! i cant find the name of this adapter anywhere either.... just the card. if i go and take the time to pull my pc from its ridiculous spot, to check out how many pins there are exactly, does anyone think that it matters who made the cord? like, is it a standard adapter? cuz i highly doubt that.

Actually, one thing you might look into that might be a more simple solution: Midi to USB adapters. So basically you stick the adapter on the end of the cable, and plug the other end into a usb port, and it will basically send the midi data over the USB port through the adapter and down the cable to the device.

Or rather, maybe it was a midi to USB cable, not an adapter. A cable from what I've seen run about $40 to $50, but you might be able to find it cheaper somewhere. Try amazon or newegg or such.

bhphotovideo might also have one for cheap.

And yeah, I'm talking about standard 5-pin midi on one end to USB on the other end.

J-bot I think you might be talking about a M-Audio UNO... I have one and it has been awesome. I even used it to upload custom tones to my buddies Line6 bean.
