righto so my mixer has a digital return button on each channel that allows playback through that channel. if i'm using say channel one for playback, can i use it also for recording? or does it work that once its used for playback, you cant use it for anything else?

Oct 04, 2011 10:51 pm yea sorry, didnt know how to put it... on my mixer down near the fader of each channel, i have a button that you put on and that allows playback to come through the mixer. if i have that turned on, can i use the XLR port to record something on the same channel or not?
i just know that you can't have an XLR and a LINE IN on the same channel at the same time, so i'm not sure if it's the same deal when a channel is doing your playback or what the go is... hope this is clearer, sorry

Oct 05, 2011 01:00 am XLR is a cable "type". You can have an XLR cable as a line in.
What is the make/model of the mixer? That would help a lot.

Oct 05, 2011 11:40 pm yea sorry, i think i know where i've gone wrong, havent been explaining it properly.
it's an allen and heath zed r16, to allow all of my computers sound to come through the mixer, i need to turn a button on called 'digital return'. all 16 channels have a digital return on them, but i normally turn the digital return on through channel 1. i just wanted to know, if i'm using the digital return through channel 1, can i use the inputs to record guitars, vox etc on channel 1 as well or is that bad for the mixer?
