Saw Styx on Saturday

Styx played after the races at our local speedway on Saturday, outdoor show...played about 6 tunes then some rain and hail delayed it about an hour...but they came back and finished up...sounded amazing...so many times after that many years voices start losing their ranges and passion starts waning a little...I gotta say, they rocked, and sounded great, still had awesome harmonies...

Just wanted to share, Styx has always been one of my fav bands...and it was cool to see in such a small venue.

Nice! As we all know, It's hard to get a good sound outside. I bet they had lots of gear.

Actually, a pretty modest rig it appeared, not sure how much was theirs and how much they hired out, but the PA was 6 hanging EV's on each side and six bins on each side, monitors were all in ear...the backline was cool, 4 massive Ampeg stacks on one side and four Marshal double stacks on the other, and the grill cloth glowed a cool blueish color, very cool...not sure if they were real or for effect, but it was neat.

After the rain and hail they appeared to have a hell of a time getting rid of a loud hum in the PA, but managed to.

I still think Tommy Shaw looks more like Joe Dirt as the years go by.

I saw Styx up close about 10 years (jeesh was it that long ago?). They had Laurence Gowan to replace Dennis DeYoung at the time. Was a great show. Tommy Shaw is at NAMM every year and usually plays an unplugged show which is cool.
