Anyone have a clue how to get close to this bass sound without a large amount of cash?

Jan 06, 2011 08:30 pm how are you recording bass now?
maybe give us your gear list.
you can get it very close if not right on.
Its all down to what gear you have and eq in the end.
Im using POD farm for bass atm and there would be no problem getting a bass sound like that. even with a DI it wouldnt be that hard.

Jan 07, 2011 04:20 am Thanks for the response Dematrix
Currently I have a Squier precision (one of the good ones), Samson Compressor, Digitech Quad and TSR going into an Akai DPS 12i.
I also have a couple of smaller Ashdown amps but would probably need to move soon after using them at home!
My guess is the sound is miked from something like a big Ampeg or a Trace Elliot (KJ were/ are known for using this kind of gear for a monster bass sound) with compression to give that punch with some chorus, probably played with a pick?
Another part may be the space given to the bass in the mix?

Jan 07, 2011 07:02 am yeah i would say it definately a pick for sure.
To be honest it sounds like its a direct in, but you can do both at the same time and pick which one you want, or blend the 2.
I will post a section of a bass track from a song were doing here atm, its not that much different really.
maybe there's a little of something on it like chorus but i couldnt say for sure, its not much more than straight bass as far a i can hear.
