are powered speakers for me?

i will be running mp3 of samples, sequences, and programed drums through what we call our live monitor system. unlike most traditional bands, we dont have a drummer and we are not looking to get one. what we need is something that replicates the live acoustic power of a drum set on stage. our old p.a. might be taken away from us and im looking into powered speakers and a 4 channel mixer. we are using electric/techno sounding drums and want to exploit the fact that they are electronic.

.... we usually run our "monitor system" into a larger house p.a. that has the vocals, guitars, keys mic'd.

im looking at maybe 2 12's or 2 15's. nothing too fancy.
its just that when we do play a show with bands with drummers, we sound a little weak in comparison. we need a little more "***" when our band plays.
what do i need to look for as far as power and wattage go with powered speakers?

any suggestions?

Well, if this is just a monitor situation that your looking for, I would have to say that 15" speakers are the way to go for you.

It sounds to me that you need a fair amount of low end on stage. A 15" speaker will extend the range of the bass for you.

Mackie actually makes a surprisingly sounding wedge. And it's not all that expensive for a self powered wedge.

Also, Welcome to the HRC! We look forward to seeing more of your post!
