Ive asked this before and was told i cant really upgrade my motherboard on my iMAC.

what i wanted to know is, will getting an external HD make it easier on my compy as far a recording and using drum proggies, pod farm etc goes?

I dont use my compy for anything else other than recording and i still have 110 gig left of a 250g hard drive.

If you use the external-HD to backup your files, and keep the HD on the compy as clean as you can(,so there's no search-lag) I assume, would make things easier on the compy. We started running things this way after recording 190+gigs of music into a 250gig HD(in 6-months), and problems arose in the form of a crackling/distortion/latency while recording. Took me a while to figure out what the issue was, but after adopting this practice of keeping the DAW as lean, and clean as I can, we haven't had a lick of trouble. I just back things up when we approach the half-way point of filling the HD. : )

I have 4 external FW drives at present (1 is a DVD Burner in a FW enclosure) - I buy enclosures when I find them on sale ($29.00, etc.) and Hard Drives too on sale - I also just bought a 1-Terrabyte External USB 2 drive but it's just for storage... The FW drives can also be "daisy-chained" - also they're great for emergency boot drives (1 is a mirrored image of my main drive) if I need to repair my internal.
