Speaker problem!

I've been going through all my broken gear lately and getting it back up and running.

I've got a set of passive single 15s and a horn that I thought I had blown the crossovers in. The crossovers are probably good because on the direct to the horn or the speaker I get nothing. The speakers look good. Are they blown anyway? I'd appreciate any help...

Hey James.

While it's rare to have a blown crossover, it's not out of the realm of possibilities.

More then likely, you may have a blown driver. (Speaker)

What you need to do is, take a meter to the suspect driver. remove the leads that go to it. And put the meter to the leads of the driver. See if you if you can read any ohm load on the driver at all.

If you don't have an ohm load, then the driver is blown.

If there is an ohm load, then the driver is good, and you need to look else where for the problem.

Yea it's definitely the drivers!
Any ideas on where to get a good price on bolt on compression drivers for the horns?

Thanks for the help, I used to run a lot of live sound but it's been about a year.

This company is one of the best for carrying all of the brand names of drivers.

www.loudspeakersplus.com/

You should be able to find the replacement diaphragm instead of the whole driver.

Dave or Jay over there is great about helping you find the correct one. And if you have never replaced a diaphragm before. They will help by giving you instructions with it.
