Um that might be because you are using the stock sound card on a Mac laptop I am assuming.

If you can give us more info on your system and exactly what you are trying to record with. Like what mic, and how is it getting into the laptop.

sure thing, i'm going direct into my PC using a griffin imic. My guitar goes through my FX pedals, then into a tube pre-amp, that outputs into the griffin imic which plugs in USB.

in my audio properties i do have the output to go through my regular sound card, but the input to go in through the imic

i take it i'm going to need more hardware to do this properly?

Are you talking about this device?

www.griffintechnology.com/products/imic/

What is the output on there? If that doesn't work as an output, and you have no output available on your stock sound device, what outputs do you have available?

If none, yeah, you'd need another device to handle outputs...I am still confused tho, as to why your stock sound card doesn't show up...what is your regular sound card?

Yep, that's the imic i'm using. It can do audio out, but the way i have my setup, i have it being used as an input, and the output goes out my internal sound card. my sound card is a creative sound blaster live... i also have the front panel interface... this one:

Oh, well, that card, while not the best for recording purposes, should be working just fine in your set up, if it's not showing up in your program as available outputs I am wondering if you have some audio preferences within Acid that has them disabled for whatever reason, or, there is a driver problem keeping it from being seen. Find the most current drivers and Creative's web site and try upgrading them.

I think the p roblem there is that using that USB device it takes over the driver set up and you cannot run both devices at the same time. That is fairly common with those generic type USB devices. It is simply a limitation of that type of device.
