My son runs Vista on a Dell Laptop. He has somehow contracted this beast:

www.bleepingcomputer.com/...e-security-tool

Nasty bugger. Anybody have any experience with this, especially with removing it? I have found several online sources with instructions for removal, but I don't know if I can trust them either!

Any help would be appreciated!

Jim

Yeah. I, myself, have been a Mac user for about five years now, and I have never even seen as much as a hint of a virus. This "Security Tools" was a nasty one. I tried getting rid of it, but it wouldn't let me install anything or rename any files or even run the Task Manager. Those virus/malware writers are indeed very talented. Why can't they put their talents to GOOD use?

Because they are usually just little script kiddies and are simply F'n around to make peoples life misserable and are to young or lame to have a real job.

If owned an anti virus software design business, i would hire those same tech geeks to create new viruses also.

how else would i/could i, get my new antivirus releases out the door so quick?

I just had Antivirus SYstem Pro on one of my Pcs. Very similar to the one you mention.

I read some removals, and did it myself. Start up in safe mode, and disable the links in msconfig, then remove the files that are being called in startup (in msconfig).

Is gone now. there may be some reg entries, but I didn't find anything that matched the problem file(s) so I think I'm clean.
