I love my wubbies...

I just thought I'd share my harrowing experience with you, my friends, here at HRC.

Last Sunday, we were at a friends house, with our 'puppy' Nero, a six-year-old American Red Nose Terrier. Our friend also has a dog about the same age... a chow.

The two dogs had gotten along quite well and pretty much kept to themselves while we were there throughout the weekend, but we noticed that if we wanted to play tug 'o war with one, the other would have to be made occupied as well, as to not make the chow jealous of the pit. We knew this, and educated the kids that were in the house to this fact, as well. Unfortunately, I don't know many seven-year-old kids that listen all that well, and sure enough, by the end of the weekend we had ourselves a ringside seat to the horrific scene of two 75+lb dogs going at it, by way of their very powerful, and 'lockable' jaws.

Now, chows are a VERY jealous breed... In fact, she actually dropped the sqeaky-toy that the kid was playing with her with, to reach over and bite my pit in the face. My dog, Nero, is the exact-opposite... wont even raise a brow if a cat walks by, and is about as docile as an animal gets... until bitten in the face. He was just impatiently waiting his turn to be played with, and was a bit too close for her comfort.

As the battle ensued, I ran accross the house to break it up. Now, getting yourself between two dogs that litterally 'can not' let go, is not an easy task. After about five minutes of trying to fit my fingers between the teeth, and flesh of each dog to try to wrench them apart, the chow let go long enough to try to get a better grip on the pit, and that's when I made my move. Unfortunately, my move put my left arm in biting-path of the chow that had let go. Ouch! Wrenching the two apart, I quickly pushed the chow into a nearby bedroom and closed the door. The battle was over.

Man! Talk about an adrenaline rush!

I really love my dog, and will never subject him to the likes of that jealous ***** ever again. I only hope she didn't turn my very loving, gentle puppy into something that fears, and is apprehensious towards other animals, by this terrifying experience. Now I have to be EXTRA cautious, and attentive to when we take him anywhrere there is another pup.(sigh)

That sucks.

I've been told to hit the dog on the rump to get them to let go. They will turn around and see who is attacking them from behind. Or so i've been told...

That's funny, Coolo.... that's exactly what I tried doing to my dog. I thought for sure that he had the upper hand on her, and that she was the one that needed the assistance. That, and I was conscious of the fact, her family didn't want to see me wailing away on their family pet.

I'll tell y'a... there is some real primordial-instinctual-violent **** going on in a dogs head when they turn that offense of theirs on! It is truly an awe inspiring site, how they can go from a kind and gentle to visciousness on such a level as to rip anothers face off.

No joke. My room mate has an old rot girl that can't see too well in the dark. She's always barking ferociously when I come home at night, but as soon as I say her name she immediately switches to a helpless whimper. Kinda funny most nights.

I was with a friend Sunday night and since she couldn't see him she just went ape-**** as we walked up to her. If I walked close to her and said her name she would whimper at me but as soon as he came close it was gnashing of teeth and furious jumping/pacing. She was going to let me in the backyard but there was no way in HELL he was coming through that gate. We ended up going through the front door that night.

At least I know how she'll react if anyone attempts to get at my gear!

Nothing a short run up and a well timed kick couldn't fix.

And notice the context sense add down here on the right.

But indeed Hue that is a bummer. sorry that happened to Nero indeed. All you can do is a keep a watchful eye and try to avoid those situation's in the future. But there was no way for you to know either that she would turn like that.

There's something about our pets that can put alot of the other things in our lives, in perspective. All that 'trust'.

Quincysan... that is pretty dang funny!

Bleak... Right.

Noize... Actually, I did know. I just didn't take account of the chaos-factors that 7-year olds throw into the equasion! haha
