are these things for real? i know that's an unspecific question, but do they actually model the original amp sound.

Apr 07, 2003 11:38 am i also just noticed in the gear bag section that the j-station does compression. is it on par with stand alone compression units. if so, i might have to pick one up.
Apr 07, 2003 12:26 pm I can't speak for the J-Station, but I can tell you that I am extremely happy with my POD. Obviously, there's no REAL substitute for having the real thing, but the POD does a very nice job for direct recording and I've heard the same about the J-Station.
I haven't tried using my POD as an outboard compressor, but I'm sure it would serve the purpose in a pinch. I might have to give that a try just for the sake of conversation.
Apr 07, 2003 03:40 pm Yes, the POD is pretty darned good for the money. However, you should note that the results you will obtain from the POD will differ GREATLY depending on the guitar that is plugged into it. The POD can deliver brilliant results with some guitars and pretty mundane results with others. I think the modeling is more noticeable if the signal you put into the POD is hotter.
Some folks use the less expensive V-Amp from Behringer, but some are dissappointed with the lack of a power switch, plastic casing, etc.

Apr 07, 2003 08:19 pm I personally dislike amp modellers quite a fair bit. I know they have their uses and that they are great for throwing down guitar lines - but there is NO substitute for actually mic'ing up your Cab / Combo. All you need is a single microphone - dynamic or condensor, either will do a good job (both at the same time will do an amazing job!) :)
If you're a guitarist you will like the POD, if you are a producer, you will probably not :)
Apr 07, 2003 10:16 pm i love my podxt. still digging around at all the sound editing options.
i think the last line from jues says it all "If you're a guitarist you will like the POD, if you are a producer, you will probably not"
