Help with Cubase LE4 - Recording with two mics

Hi everyone,

im a beginner on recording software and im trying to record interviews using Cubase LE4 and two microphones.

The two mics are plugged into a presonus interface and I made sure that the phantom power is on.

When you playback a recording only one of the mics can be heard well, the other is very faint.

How can i get both mics to sound good? Any pointers would be great.

Paul

Hey Paul, first thing I would do is switch the two mics to make sure that the mic is not faulty. If your interface has more than 2 inputs, try it in another input to make sure the pre-amp is not dead/dying. Are you seeing proper levels in Cubase when you monitor the inputs? Maybe swap your monitors to make sure one of your monitors is not failing.

...thats all I can think of for now

Which Presonus interface might help as well.

AS BH stated, you should check the mic's cable's and even the monitor's to make sure all is OK and functioning properly.

Im using the presonus audiobox interface. One mic is a senheiser e835, and the other is a Rode NTG-1.

I tried swapping the mics on the inputs and they're working fine. I think its got to do with the input settings on the software.

Ive tried it again this morning, i can hear both the mics working perfectly through the headphones, but only one of them actually records properly during playback.

when you say records properly do mean at all or as you said before the other mic is faint?

i dunno but it sounds like you might not be getting the gain you need on the dynamic mic, is that the one thats faint?

the reason youre hearing it ok thru headphones is you are probably using direct monitoring so its bypassing cubase and giving you the direct signal from the pre sonus. its getting messed up somewhere after it goes to cubase.

have another listen to the faint one, is it there at all?
give us the heads up which mic it is too.

Noize will know more about this.
