Little guitar sound help please...

I'm recording an acoustic guitar into one mono channel using Sonar XL and a large diaphram condenser mic (Apex 430). Once added to the remaining tracks, it sounds distant and dull. I'd like to find out how I bring the guitar forward in the soundstage, and possibly make it sound more "stereo"? (phasing, etc..)

I've tried to duplicate the guitar, and it makes it a little louder and fuller, but still distant. Also, since I'm using a crap MX300 sound card, I have to access the sound card driver in mono in Sonar to be able to do anything, is this one of my problems? I can't pan anything left or right while mixing.

Help a newbie get a good sound;-)

Here's a sample of what I'm talking about....

Thanks in advance...

....actually now that I've finished reading the Adv. Mic Tech. under Recording tips, I've finally got "that" sound...

Just out of interest - which 'Advanced Mic'ing Tutorial' was it?

It was yours from Feb 18. What really helped me was duplicating the rhythm track (I didn't record with 2 mics or twice, just cloned), and inverting the second clone, giving me the "outside" presence I was looking for, and a nice hole in the middle for lead and vocals...

Thanks jues
...now I just have to figure out how to add a bass line to this song;-)
