If you have the time to listen...

Uploaded 2 songs and they can be found in my profile:

- "Holding On"
An electric blues song and very basic: drums, bass and an electric guitar. The song is meant to give the impression of a live performance.

- "Gimme a Break"
An older song that was just eating dust on my computer. I worked on it again in November, yet more mixing and/or mastering may be needed, but this is it for now.

I thought Holding On sounded really cool, though it needs vocals or more variety in the soloing. Definitly nice sound, had a funk blues kinda sound to me.

Gimme a Break was cool as well though not really my cup of tea.

Holding on would be easy to dance to that's for sure. It reminded me a bit of some very old tunes from the likes of a band called Stuff. I agree that vocals would really break that up a bit. I liked the bass line as well. I think a couple change ups in the lead lines would break it up as well without doing any vocal's on it.

Gimme a Break is very cool. The way you have the drums filtered and such gives a really interesting feel to it. Almost touching on Industrial at moments. Your choice of sounds is excellent and they all mix in well. The Loon sounding bit that comes and goes on occasion is really a set off point. It comes as a surprise as it really shouldn't fit in there but somehow manages to find a space as it floats on by. The bass synthe is killer as well.

I can't think of anything I would change in that piece at the moment.

Well done, and its going in my player for sure.

I like both of them actually, but am confused by the genre. The blues one sounds funky to me, and the funky sounds more industrial :)

Nice work anyway!

Thanks guys for taking the time to listen and the comments. That way you get the feeling that you're not doing it at all for nothing. LOL

Concerning the idea of vocals for "Holding On", I'm not much of a singer so that's not really an option. It might be easier to work in a greater variety on the solo guitar. Although part 1 and part 2 sound quite similar, they are in fact completely different.

I'm really happy that "Gimme a Break" was received well. I wasn't sure if it was too out of bounds for HRC. Guess not.

Noize, the loony bit fell in place by accident when I was fiddling around with some samples. You know, trying to find something to spice up the song without going overboard, and this just was it.
Worked on that bass a looooong time, glad you liked it.

It's OK to be confused Cpt. Many times I'm too. :-) Especially when it comes to defining a song for a genre label. To be honest, there are only 2 different styles of music for me; the ones I like and the ones I don't like.

Nightcap, that one is in my favorite style for sure. I love just tweaking a sound and hoping it fits. And the loon part caught me by surprise but just floated along in there.

Its so cool when stuff like that happens.

I'll pop a link up to a new artist profile on the 61 I put up just for fun and the first track up is something that the kids picked all the samples and patches out for. So for me it was a matter of making it all fit together into something that worked. I'll put up a link in a day or two and you guys will probably all get a chuckle out of it. Its now like 13 years old, but I honestly don't get tired of pulling it out to listen to once in awhile.

Makes you feel like you conquered the world, doesn't it? Sometimes serendipity deserves all the credit though. LOL

Can't wait to see that link! I always like fooling around with samples too.

I know it made the kids feel like that back then. I miss those days, things were not so busy.

If you want a good chuckle here is the link to the page. Its the only tune up there so far. Not getting any bumps as I suppose it isn't a real work of art. But the kids still find it and some of the others they participated in fun to listen to.

I'll probably put this in the regular forum sometime too after I get a couple more tunes up.

Had a good chuckle indeed. Didn't sound too bad though. Had a nice techno/industrial feeling to it. I've heard techno songs that can't compare to this one for sure. Like the title too btw. :-)

Ya, it wasn't mixed properly or anything. I just kind of let them toss stuff in at random and helped with the midi portion and aligning it. But the name, that is my oldest son's name. And he created part of the drum track himself on an old Alesis HR-16. As usual they name it before it was done, thus it all started around Charlies Kick. Dumb I know but for the kids it was a riot.

So how bout that ending though. I think Ray the youngest at the time was just over 3 and laid himself out on the keyboard for that one. I figured a simple fade out would do. I laugh out loud every time that tune ends.

Thanx for giving it a listen indeed.

He was 3 when he did the outro? Impressive! I thought it was a sample or something you added yourself. Good ending and it goes well with the rest. It may not be art, but I liked it.

I have dabbled in Techno in the past and I may end up pimping a song or two in Reaper and upload them in the future. Maybe someone else will like 'em too besides me. :-)

Ya, impressive alright. The look on his face was priceless. You can imagine what it sounded like live coming out of the speaker's. He just grinned the whole time while sprawled out on the keys. I wish I would have had a video camera back then.

I've got lots of interesting techno/electronic pieces you would get a kick out of. If I get a bit of time I'll email you a link to a couple of mp3's I think you'll find interesting. One is a very old piece that was in my very early days. All analog synhtes, no digital anything in that one. The other is all software synthes.

Hey that would be great! I'd love to listen to what you've been doing in the past. I'll see if I can make some time to work on a few of my old Techno songs and polish them up a little. Would be a waste not to use a few current VSTs, right? :-)
